EFPC Webinar series 2022 | Main Theme 2022: “Primary Care and the Patient Perspective”
Webinar: Students’ mental health from a Primary Care perspective.
16th November 2022 | 14-15h CET
The Greek educational system doesn’t offer routine screening for learning difficulties in early school life. It’s still up to parents to decide whether to seek assessment and support for their children. Parents’ low awareness and acceptance of the problem result in under-diagnosis. This in turn ends up with high numbers of young people entering higher education undetected, with a huge impact on their academic life and mental health. This problem has only now attracted the attention of the greek government and the educational authorities and they are now planning to introduce new services/opportunities for the support of higher education students facing such problems. The Hellenic Mediterranean University is the first across Greece to have introduced (since 2 years ago), a new service for this purpose, offered at daily basis as part of the university primary care unit.
The health of medical students and future doctors is becoming an increasingly important topic. The Peer2Peer program at the Medical University has had a focus on this for 10 years, in which interested students are trained as multipliers who organize a wide variety of offers on mental health for their fellow students.
